Bano used to live at Ludhiana (India) in pre- partition days. She has suffered a lot of torture and cruelty over there. Mean while she met a boy called Hasen who was her neighbor. Bano’s brother Salem was betrothed to Hasen’s sister. The same relationship became the main reason of meeting of Hansen and Bano. After this meeting both became attracted to each other. Hasen was a freedom fighter. Who used to dream about a free Muslim state, and the same dream instigated him to become an active member of All India Muslim league. Contrary to it, Salem was a liberal young man who not only was against partition of sub continent; he also used to work for All India Congress. Immediately after partition Hasen left for Pakistan along with his mother, his sister who was married to Salem stays on with her family in Ludhiana. The riots started with Sikhs attacking Muslims, Bano and her mother, brother and sister in law who was Hasen’s sister also were victims of riots. Most of the people died but old friends of Salem called Ram and Ravi saved Bano and her mother. They all took refuge in a jungle far from the main population. While hiding in forest Ram changed his mind and in the early hours of morning while all were sleeping, started assault on Bano but Ravi keeping in view their long friendship came as savior of Bano and her mother. He sent them with a caravan towards Pakistan. On its way the caravan was attacked and looted and in this process her mother lost her life. Though Bano was a target of assault and rape but she managed to save her life and escaped through a train going towards Pakistan. In the mean while Sikhs looted the train and during the attack Bano fainted one of the Sikh attackers called Basanta saw unconscious Bano and fell in love. He lifted Bano and took her to his home. His mother Parmer looked after Bano but in the meanwhile Basanta daily targeted Bano of assault and rape. Bano had a child of Basanta but she hated her son because he was off spring of Basanta. The kid was quite young when Basanta was killed and Bano any how reached Pakistan. Under such circumstances she met Hasen but they could only sympathize to each other.
